30fps in gta 6 won't bother me, rdr2 on ps5 changed my mind

I know some of you will downvote this but hear me out. I do notice the difference between 30 and 60 fps. I've been playing Crimson Desert on my launch PS5 and the 30 fps mode felt really jittery. Like it was actively making the game less fun. I was worried GTA 6 would have the same problem.

Then last night I reinstalled RDR2 just to mess around in free roam. And I was genuinely surprised. RDR2 still runs at 30 fps on PS5, no patch or anything. But it felt smooth. It took me a solid half hour before I even remembered I was on 30 fps. I wasn't thinking about frame rate at all, just riding around, hunting, whatever.

I think Rockstar's motion blur and frame pacing are just on another level compared to most studios. Crimson Desert felt choppy at 30, but RDR2 doesn't. And if RDR2 can do that on old hardware, GTA 6 on current gen should be even better. The extended look footage already looked buttery to me, and that was probably running at 30 on a dev kit.

I'm not saying 60 wouldn't be nice. Obviously it would. But I'm way less worried about the console version being locked to 30 now. If it feels like RDR2, I'll forget about it within minutes.

Anyone else go back to RDR2 recently and feel the same way? Or do you think GTA 6 needs 60 fps no matter what?

ok so same exact thing happened to me, I reinstalled rdr2 a few months back "just to check something" and lost an entire weekend to it. never once thought about framerate after the first ten minutes. rockstar's frame pacing is genuinely on another level, the frame times are basically a flat line and that's why their 30 feels fine where other games feel like they're tripping over themselves.

one thing though

that was probably running at 30 on a dev kit

we don't actually know that! nothing official has said what the extended look was captured on or at what framerate. I want it to be true because it'd mean the console version really looks that good, but it's an assumption. careful with that one.

anyway yeah, if gta 6's 30 feels like rdr2's 30 I'm forgetting about it by hour two.

coming at this from the rp side, fps barely matters for what we actually do. half the session is standing in a circle outside a burger joint talking. what actually kills scenes is hitching, like when 40 people roll up to a car meet or everyone piles into one interior and the game chokes.

the frame times are basically a flat line

this is the whole thing. a locked flat 30 holds up way better in crowded rp scenes than a 60 that dips every time the lobby fills up. mmo players learned that lesson a long time ago.

funny part is pc rp folks on fivem are spoiled at 100+ fps, but with no pc version announced, console 30 might be where gta 6 rp starts. if it feels like rdr2's 30, fine by me. just dont let it hitch when the server is full.
