the item pickup animation in the extended look has me way too excited

I've been replaying RDR2 lately and the item interaction stuff drives me up the wall. You know the drill, walk up to a cabinet, the prompt doesn't show, you shuffle left, shuffle right, Arthur finally locks in and then spends what feels like forever doing the animation. Half the time I just give up and leave the loot.

So when I saw that clip in the Extended Look of Jason grabbing stuff, I had to rewatch it a few times. The prompt shows up from way further out than I expected. You don't need to be standing in one exact pixel. And it's sitting right over the item itself, not tucked in the corner of the screen, so your eyes stay where the action is.

The animation is quick too. Realistic but not slow. Jason bends, grabs, keeps moving. He picks up two things without breaking stride. That's the part that got me. In RDR2 you'd stop, reposition, wait, then slowly pick it up. Here it's just fluid.

Rockstar's on-foot controls have always felt a little tanky in the HD era. GTA V was better than RDR2 but still clunky in tight spaces. If this is the baseline for GTA 6, I'm genuinely relieved. It's a small thing but it adds up over a 60 hour game.

I know some people will say it's just a pickup animation, who cares. But those little interactions are constant. Every drawer, every shelf, every body you loot. If they've nailed the feel here, the whole game is going to feel better to actually play.

Fingers crossed the final build keeps this responsiveness and it wasn't just a scripted moment for the trailer.

You buried the lede with that last line.

That's the whole question. The Extended Look is a marketing reel, every clip chosen because it plays clean. Nobody cuts a demo around the part where Jason rubber-bands off a doorframe or the prompt refuses to spawn.

Fair point in your favor though. This aired in late August, launch is November 19. Harder to fake responsiveness that close to ship than it was back in 2023.

My worry is different. RDR2's looting was slow on purpose, some designer's idea of weight. Rockstar doesn't abandon ideas, they double down. So I half expect the quick grab on store shelves and a five second ritual when you loot a body. We'll see which version shows up at midnight.
