ex playstation boss says gta 6 hype will be matched eventually but probably by rockstar themselves

Saw a GamesRadar piece today about Shuhei Yoshida talking GTA 6 hype. He thinks the insane level of anticipation around this game will eventually be matched by another title, but he's not sure it'll be from a different studio. His guess is Rockstar might have to do it themselves, like with GTA 7 way down the line. He mentioned something like 15 years out.
He also said other companies might try to compete in the gap after GTA 6 drops. That part makes sense. We all know the wait between Rockstar games is brutal, and other open world games will try to fill that void. Watch Dogs, Cyberpunk, even the newer Saints Row all tried to grab that crowd and none of them came close to the cultural moment GTA creates.
I'm not really surprised by his take. Rockstar is the only studio that consistently sets the bar for open world detail, NPC behavior, and just sheer scale. GTA 6 is already breaking pre-order records and the extended look was something else. If anyone can top GTA 6, it's Rockstar with GTA 7. But 15 years is a long time. By then the gaming landscape could be completely different, and who knows if the hype machine even works the same way.
For now I'm just focused on November 19. If GTA 6 actually delivers on everything they've shown, GTA 7 will have an even bigger mountain to climb. And honestly, I'm fine with that.
