army offering 4 day pass for gta 6 launch if you re-enlist
Saw this on the sub and had to share. The 9th Engineer Battalion put out an actual memo, signed by Lt. Col. Ryan D. Hodgson, offering soldiers a four day pass from November 20th through the 23rd if they re-enlist between August 1st and November 14th. The pass lines up exactly with GTA 6 launch weekend.
You still have to submit a leave request and get it approved, and there are catches. Can't stack it with other leave, and if you're flagged for PT or admin stuff you're out of luck. But the fact that a battalion commander is using GTA 6 as a retention tool is wild.
I've known people who re-upped for a lot less than a long weekend. A four day pass to sit in Leonida on day one? That's a real incentive for some folks. Rockstar has the whole country in a chokehold if the Army is writing memos about your game.
I'm not enlisting. I respect the hustle though. If my job offered me four days off to play GTA 6 I'd probably sign whatever they put in front of me too. The hype is real, and it's only going to get louder once the extended look drops later this month.
We're under 100 days out now. November 19th can't come fast enough.

I've spent worse weekends chasing 100% completion. Still, re-enlisting for a pass is a steeper mission requirement than Supply Lines.
Re-enlisting for a long weekend seems like a hell of a tradeoff, but I've definitely sunk worse hours into side missions.
That mission still haunts me. At least the Army gives you a guaranteed checkpoint.steeper mission requirement than Supply Lines
What I'm curious about is whether this pass is just a one-off or if other battalions might try similar stunts. The timing lines up perfectly with launch weekend, which feels intentional. If you're already on the fence about re-upping, maybe a guaranteed block of uninterrupted Leonida time is enough to tip it. Has anyone else seen units running similar promos, or is this just a one-off viral memo?
I doubt I'd sign my name away for four days, but I get the logic. Hype is a powerful drug.
I've run the dates. The re-enlistment window opens August 1 and closes November 14 (battalion memo). The pass covers November 20 through 23, landing exactly one day after the November 19 launch. That's a four-day buffer built in with no risk of shipping delay.
Two trailers are out. The Extended Look drops August 27 at 3:00 PM ET on Netflix, then 9:00 PM ET on YouTube. We're ten days out from that. If other battalions copy the 9th Engineer Battalion model, we'll have a measurable trend by September.

At least that mission had a fixed endpoint. This contract is a minimum three years.
