movies to get in the miami/vice city headspace before gta 6
I'm not from the US, so my main exposure to Vice City is the original game. Played it a ton growing up but I want to go deeper before GTA 6 drops. The setting looks way more grounded this time, with real neighborhoods and a whole state, not just neon and pastel.
I'm looking for movie recs that capture the Miami/Florida vibe. Nightlife, crime, the drug trade, wealth, immigrant communities, different neighborhoods. Stuff from the 80s, 90s, and 2000s especially, but anything that nails the atmosphere works.
I know the obvious touchstones exist but I'd rather get a list from people who actually know the region or have studied this stuff. The original Vice City leaned hard into a specific aesthetic, and I want to understand what's real versus what was exaggerated for the game.
If you've got anything that shows the less glamorous side too, that's what I'm after. The strip malls, the humidity, the way different communities rub up against each other. That kind of texture.
Drop your picks and I'll start working through them. Anything that helps me feel like I've actually been to Leonida before November is welcome.
