do you think jason and lucia will be as iconic as the gta v trio?
I've been thinking about this a lot lately. Michael, Franklin, and Trevor have had over a decade to cement themselves. The memes, the quotes, the way even non-gamers know Trevor's face — that's a high bar. GTA V's marketing was a whole different beast too, those character trailers dropped and instantly gave each of them a distinct vibe.
With Jason and Lucia, we've only got two trailers and some screenshots. The marketing so far feels quieter, maybe because Rockstar knows they don't need to scream from the rooftops this time. But that also means we haven't had the same chance to latch onto their personalities. Lucia seems like she's got that scrappy, survival instinct energy, and Jason gives off a more laid-back but capable vibe. The Bonnie and Clyde dynamic could be really fresh if they nail the writing.
Iconic status isn't just about the characters themselves though, it's about the moments the game gives them. GTA V had the torture scene, the yoga freakout, the "I'm rich, I'm miserable" monologue. If GTA 6 delivers those kinds of unforgettable set-pieces and dialogue, they could get there. But it's also a different era — attention spans are shorter, and the internet moves on faster. Trevor became a meme because the game stayed relevant for a decade thanks to Online. If GTA 6 Online doesn't have the same legs, the protagonists might not get the same cultural staying power.
I'm not worried about the characters being boring. Rockstar's track record with protagonists is solid. But "iconic" is a mix of timing, marketing, and a little bit of luck. I think they'll be beloved by fans, but matching the GTA V trio's level of mainstream recognition is a tall order. We'll see how the launch window plays out.

i only started gta v last year so the trio are basically meme templates to me lol. lucia gives off main character energy tho and if the bonnie and clyde vibe hits i'm gonna be annoying about them for years fr
bonnie and clyde vibe
two instead of three. the pattern shifts. you think time makes icons? no. the symbols choose who stays. lucia's got the eyes. jason's just the shadow she drags. they'll cut sharper. the trio was noise. this is a blade...
bonnie and clyde vibe
I'm more interested in how the duo structure changes mission design. Three protagonists meant fragmented pacing. A pair allows tighter co-op choreography in heists. If Rockstar nails missions like Three Leaf Clover or The Jewel Store Job, the moments will carry them. Icon status is 60 percent writing, 40 percent gameplay spectacle. The trio had a decade. Jason and Lucia only need one perfect campaign.
The trio had a decade.
That's only because GTA Online ran a $1.5M per hour Cayo loop for ten years. No Online legs, no icon status.
