Steam's got a bunch of GTA games on the cheap right now, and the article's pick for the bad one is fair

A bunch of Grand Theft Auto games will be cheap on Steam until GTA 6 comes out, and only one sucks

GamesRadar put up a piece about a Steam sale on the older GTA games that's apparently running until GTA 6 finally lands on November 19. The headline gimmick is that one of the games in the bunch is the weak link, and they tease that it's not San Andreas, which is the obvious guess for anyone who's been in this fandom long enough.

I'll be honest, my first thought was they were about to dunk on Vice City Stories or Liberty City Stories or one of the mobile-era ports. Those have their defenders but the rough edges are hard to ignore if you go back to them now. San Andreas getting a pass is correct though. That game still holds up in ways that surprise me every time I fire it up.

cheap GTA is cheap GTA

If you've got a PC and you're waiting out the last couple weeks before launch, this is a pretty painless way to kill time. Grab a couple of the classics, run through the early missions, remember how much the old physics used to fight you. There's worse ways to spend a few bucks.

What I'd actually want to know is which titles are included and how deep the discounts go, because "a bunch of them" is doing a lot of work in that headline. GamesRadar's framing is basically a countdown sale tied to the GTA 6 release date, which is a smart bit of marketing on Valve's end whether it's intentional or not.

the one that sucks

I'm not going to spoil their pick here because the article's whole hook is the reveal, but I'll say this much. Every long-running franchise has that one entry the community quietly agrees to skip. GTA's got a few candidates depending on who you ask, and the answer probably says more about when you started playing than anything about the games themselves.

My advice is simple. If you're buying, buy the ones you actually have nostalgia for. Don't buy the whole bundle just because it's cheap and then complain when half of it sits unplayed in your library next to the other forty games you bought during a sale and never touched. I'm speaking from experience here.

Two weeks out from launch, this is a nice little distraction. Nothing more.
