former gta 6 dev says switch 2 port doesn't make sense, phones might be the play

Caught a Dexerto piece where a former GTA 6 dev weighed in on the Switch 2 port chatter. His take is basically that it doesn't make sense, but he floated the idea that phones could end up being playable somehow.

That phone part threw me. We know the game is built for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, no PC version announced yet. A native Switch 2 version always felt like a long shot given the hardware gap, but phones? Unless he means cloud streaming through something like Game Pass or a future Rockstar service, I can't see a native mobile port happening anytime soon.

I get why people keep asking about Switch 2 though. Nintendo's install base is huge and GTA has sold well on their handhelds before, Chinatown Wars on DS and the old top-down games. But GTA 6 is a different beast. The trailers already look heavy enough that a handheld chip would struggle.

The dev didn't go into specifics in the snippet, so I'm reading between the lines a bit. Still, it's nice to hear someone who actually worked on the game shut down the Switch 2 chatter instead of the usual no comment dance.

If phones do end up being a thing, it'll probably be streaming only. Native mobile GTA 6 sounds like a pipe dream until phone chips catch up, and that's years out. I'll keep my expectations on the two consoles we know about for now.

phones means cloud, and cloud means input lag. good luck keeping a pursuit clean when your steering shows up half a second late. fine for cruising around vice city, useless for actual RP.

switch 2 gets a port or it dont, changes nothing for the RP scene. fivem is pc and pc isnt even announced yet. im gonna be grinding gta 5 servers deep into the gta 6 lifecycle at this rate.
