GTA 6 won’t let you switch between Lucia and Jason whenever you want because it would be "unnatural" for story progression

I remember messing around with the character wheel in GTA 5 for hours, just swapping between Franklin, Michael, and Trevor mid chaos. It was a blast, but it also made the story feel a little loose sometimes. You could be in the middle of a tense mission and suddenly you're across the map as someone else with zero consequence.

GamesRadar has a piece up saying GTA 6 won't let you do that with Lucia and Jason. Rockstar apparently thinks free switching would be 'unnatural' for story progression. So you'll probably only swap when the narrative calls for it, like at specific moments or between missions.

I get the logic. Lucia and Jason are a couple, not three strangers whose lives intersect. Their story is probably more tightly wound. If you could just bounce between them whenever, it might undercut whatever tension they're building. GTA 5's three protagonist structure worked because each character had their own orbit. With two leads in a relationship, constant switching could feel weird.

Some folks are gonna be annoyed. The character wheel was a fun sandbox tool. But honestly, I'd rather have a focused story than a gimmick. Red Dead 2 didn't let you switch to anyone else and it's still the best narrative Rockstar's ever done. If GTA 6 is going for that kind of weight, restricting swaps makes sense.

I'm not saying I won't miss the chaos of swapping mid police chase. But if the tradeoff is a tighter Lucia and Jason arc, I'm in. Rockstar's been pretty clear they want this one to feel different from GTA 5, and this is one way to do it.
