GTA veteran's MindsEye studio Build a Rocket Boy has entered administration, following yet more reports of layoffs

Eurogamer is reporting that Build a Rocket Boy has entered administration. That's the studio behind MindsEye, the 2025 shooter that got panned pretty hard. The same studio run by a GTA veteran.

Last week there were already reports of more layoffs hitting the team. Now the company has filed for administration. It's a rough end for a project that had a lot of eyes on it because of the Rockstar connection.

What makes it messier is the studio kept pointing fingers. There were earlier reports about them blaming 'saboteurs' inside the company for MindsEye's poor reception. That never sat right with me. A game doesn't flop because a few people quietly sabotaged it. Usually the problems are bigger than that.

MindsEye came out in 2025 and it just didn't land. I remember the trailers looked ambitious but the final game felt like it was trying to chase too many things at once. Now the studio is in administration and people are out of work. That part sucks no matter how you feel about the game.

It's a reminder that being an ex-Rockstar person doesn't guarantee a hit. Plenty of talented devs leave big studios and struggle to recreate that magic. Rockstar's pipeline, budget, and time are a different beast.

I'm curious if anyone here actually played MindsEye. Do you think the 'saboteur' excuse was ever believable, or was the game just not good enough?
