bioware gone but mass effect show still happening, dev just wants to play gta 6
Saw this over on VGC. BioWare is done. Amazon's Mass Effect series is apparently still moving forward though, even after whatever game got cancelled this week.
The game director's quote is basically all of us. "At least I can play GTA 6." That's the only thing keeping me sane through all this industry chaos.
It's wild how many studios are folding or getting gutted right now. And yet here we are, less than a month out from GTA 6. Rockstar somehow still feels untouchable. I know they've had their own crunch stories and delays, but compared to everyone else they look like the last studio standing that can actually ship a massive single player game without it falling apart.
The Mass Effect show being unaffected is interesting too. Amazon must have sunk too much money into it to pull the plug. But the game side? Cancelled. That's the part that stings. Another big RPG franchise just gone or on ice.
I keep thinking about how many devs are going to be looking for work right around when GTA 6 drops. Maybe some of them land at Rockstar for whatever comes next. Or maybe they just play GTA 6 like the rest of us and try to forget the industry is on fire.
Do you think Rockstar is the only studio left that can still deliver a huge single player game without cutting corners, or are we just lucky they got GTA 6 out before the whole industry collapsed?
