NBA 2K27 Dunks On Resident Evil Requiem To Become The US’s Best-Selling Game Of 2026

Saw the Circana numbers this morning and it's kind of funny watching the yearly sports machine do its thing. NBA 2K27 just passed Resident Evil Requiem to become the best selling game of 2026 year to date in the US. Requiem had a monster start, 5 million copies in five days and 6 million in two weeks, fastest selling RE ever. It was also the top physical PS5 game this year with something like 1.3 million discs. But 2K does this every single year, it's basically guaranteed top five.

Mat Piscatella said eight of the top ten best sellers in September were new releases. NBA 2K27 was only second for the month though, Marvel's Wolverine took September. But the year to date crown is what matters and 2K has it now. The top ten list is a weird mix, you've got 007 First Light at 3, Crimson Desert at 5, Lego Batman at 9. Pokemon Pokopia rounding it out.

Call of Duty used to own this spot but Hogwarts Legacy in 2023 and Battlefield 6 last year already pushed it down. Now 2K is on top until November. We all know what's coming. Analysts are already saying GTA 6 takes the year when it launches November 19. That's not really a bold call, the preorders alone are probably going to dwarf everything else. 2K can enjoy the view for a few weeks.

I don't play sports games at all, still respect the consistency. Watching RE Requiem get dethroned after that insane launch just makes me more curious how GTA 6's first week numbers are going to look. Probably not even close.
