Parts of GTA 6 are "a bit outdated and weird," says former Rockstar dev, but "like GTA 5" it will "perform really well" and keep fans busy for a decade

GamesRadar talked to a former Rockstar animator who worked on GTA 5 and RDR2, and he had a pretty measured take on GTA 6. He thinks some parts of the game feel a bit outdated and weird, which is kind of funny to hear after all the extended look footage we got in August.

But he also said it'll perform really well and keep fans busy for a decade, same way GTA 5 did. That part isn't surprising. GTA 5 has been around since 2013 and people still play it daily, so Rockstar clearly knows how to make a game with legs.

I'm not sure what he means by outdated and weird. Could be animations, could be some legacy systems they carried over. He didn't go into specifics from what I can tell, just that it's not all cutting edge. But if the core loop is solid, most people won't care. GTA 5 had plenty of jank and it didn't matter.

The decade part is the real takeaway. If GTA 6 really does hold attention for ten years, that's a huge commitment for Rockstar's online plans. I'm already planning to sink way too many hours into Leonida.

What do you think he's referring to when he says outdated and weird?

GTA 5 was janky as hell at launch and it carried us 13 years. "Outdated and weird" from an ex-animator doesn't scare me one bit.

the "weird" parts are always where they hide the good stuff... outdated just means the old symbols survived. ten years is plenty of time to find them
