dexerto says gta 6 is changing the control layout and it might save controllers

Saw this Dexerto piece and it's got me thinking. They're claiming GTA 6 is making a big change to the control layout Rockstar usually uses, and the whole pitch is that it might stop people from destroying their controllers.
The article doesn't actually spell out what the change is, which is annoying. So now I'm sitting here trying to figure out what they could possibly mean. My first thought is the sprint button. In GTA 5 and RDR2 you're mashing A or X constantly to run, and that's the number one thing that wears out controllers. If Rockstar finally moved sprint to a trigger or made it a toggle, that alone would be huge.
But it could also be something like the weapon wheel or the interaction menu. Those have been the same for ages. Or maybe they're reworking how you switch between Lucia and Jason, since we know that's a thing now. The article says "typically found in Rockstar Games' releases" which makes me think it's a core control, something bigger than a minor tweak.
I'm not going to pretend I know what it is. Dexerto is being vague on purpose, probably because they don't have the full details either. But if it's true that Rockstar is rethinking controls, that's a bigger deal than people realize. GTA 5's controls are fine but they're also kind of dated. RDR2 had its own weirdness with the weapon wheel and the horse controls.
What I really want is for them to fix the cover system. That thing has been janky since GTA 4 and it's never felt right. If the control change is about making cover more responsive, I'm all for it. But again, no idea if that's what they're talking about.
Either way, my DualSense is already on its last legs from GTA Online, so any change that means less button mashing is welcome. I just hope they don't overcomplicate it. Rockstar sometimes adds too many contextual actions and then you're holding three buttons at once just to open a car door.
Guess we'll find out eventually. For now I'm just glad someone is talking about controls, because that's the kind of thing that makes or breaks a game after 100 hours.

If sprint goes to a toggle, I can finally hoof it across the Leonida Keys without wearing out a thumbstick. That alone would be a win.
