GTA 6 is so big, Rockstar doesn't "know that there's anybody on the team that knows all of it"

I keep thinking about how much of GTA 5 I never saw after hundreds of hours, and now Rockstar is saying they don't even know if a single person on the team has seen all of GTA 6. GamesRadar ran a piece on it and the gist is that the game is so big, Rockstar can't confirm anyone on the dev team knows all of it. That's not a marketing line either, it's the kind of thing that makes the wait feel both better and worse.

We already knew Leonida was going to be massive. Vice City, the Keys, Grassrivers, Mount Kalaga, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia. That's a lot of ground before you even get into interiors and side stuff. But hearing that even the people building it haven't seen the whole thing puts it in perspective. GTA 5 had a ton of hidden corners and random events, and that was one city plus Blaine County. If no one dev has seen all of Leonida, the density has to be on another level.

I'm not expecting every square inch to be handcrafted like a Rockstar interior, but the fact that they're comfortable saying this out loud tells me they're not worried about the map feeling empty. Usually when a studio talks about scale, it's a red flag. This feels different because Rockstar has spent over a decade on this and they're still finding new stuff in their own game, apparently.

What gets me is the implication for exploration. I already planned to ignore the story for the first week and just drive around. Now I'm wondering if I'll ever actually finish the main campaign. That's not a complaint. I wanted a game I could live in, and it sounds like Rockstar built exactly that.

my broke self is paying $80 for a game i will never fully see and somehow that's fine lol

a map even the builders can't hold in their head... that's where the good stuff hides. kalaga's gonna have its own mural, watch

300 hours in GTA 5 and I was still stumbling into random encounters by accident. If the devs can't see all of Leonida, my first month is already spoken for.

Not surprising. GTA 5 had 60 random events and I still found new ones at hour 400. Six named regions means no one person was ever seeing all of Leonida.

The Grassrivers is where I'll get lost (happily). Swamp eats dev knowledge way faster than a downtown grid ever could, ask anyone who boated the Lago Zancudo wetlands.
