sprint is finally on the analog stick in gta 6, thank god

Been mashing X/A to run since GTA 3 and I never got used to it. Every other game uses L3/R3, but Rockstar kept the face button thing forever. Apparently that's over.

GameSpot picked up on an Italian YouTuber named MikeShowSha who shared the change. Sprinting in GTA 6 is now clicking the left stick instead of holding or tapping a face button. Muscle memory from every other modern game finally applies here. Halo adjusted its controls over time too, but usually kept the old scheme as an option. No word yet if Rockstar will let you switch back to the old way.

GameSpot jokes that this is obviously why it took 13 years for GTA 6 to arrive. The real stuff they mention is a map three times bigger than Red Dead Redemption 2, a new Criminal Profile system, throwable dog poop, and a physical fitness system. I'm still stuck on the sprint thing though. It's such a small change but it makes the whole game feel less like a relic.

Anyone else going to have to unlearn years of mashing A/X, or is this change long overdue?

Long overdue for sure. My thumb is still traumatized from mashing X since San Andreas, haha. One week to unlearn and I never look back.

My only worry is accidental stick clicks. I've clicked L3 mid-panic in plenty of games and suddenly I'm sprinting into a wall. Curious how it behaves while aiming, since that's usually when my grip tightens. Might be fine though, and if the fitness system actually changes sprint speed or stamina, clicking in could feel pretty natural. Guess we'll see if legacy controls come back as an option.

ok so cautious optimism here since it's a YouTuber report and not Rockstar confirming it, but man I hope it's real, twenty years of mashing X is enough!
