digital foundry says gta 6 is the most impressive real time rendering they've ever seen

DF finally weighed in on the extended look and they're not holding back. They called it the most impressive example of real-time rendering they've ever seen. That's a huge statement from a channel that's been analyzing game tech for over a decade.
The extended look already had everyone talking, but now the tech nerds are confirming what we all saw. The game looks on par with the best looking PS5 games, but it's an open world with insane detail. I remember people doubting Rockstar could pull this off on current gen hardware, but here we are.
The density of Vice City, the lighting, the character models, it's all next level. I'm not surprised DF is impressed, they've been critical of some recent open world games for cutting corners. GTA 6 seems to be doing everything at once.
I can't wait to see the full DF breakdown video, they usually do a deep dive after a big reveal. This is just the initial reaction. Anyway, November can't come soon enough.

df usually dont gas up open worlds like this so im inclined to believe em. still, all that eye candy means nothing if the netcode cant handle heavy rp zones. vice city full of player owned biz and npc density is meltdown city unless theyve really optimized the backend.

That's a fair worry, though I'm coming at it from the other side. Backend RP meltdowns aren't my concern. I'm wondering if that insane detail actually buys us better character work. Rockstar's used world density to sell character moments before. The tech ought to serve that same goal here.
If the lighting and NPC routines are really that advanced, hopefully it means Lucia and Jason's world feels lived in. A city that reacts properly, where characters notice weather and traffic actually feels chaotic, beats one that only looks good in a screenshot. November's close but I still want to see how those cinematic moments hold up when you're actually playing them.
DF knows their tech. I'm waiting to see if that visual density translates to cops with proper tactical positioning and believable pursuit behavior.
