netflix says gta 6 extended look was their most watched thing last week, 31 million views

So Netflix just dropped their weekly top 10 and the GTA 6 extended look trailer was the most viewed title on the whole platform last week. 31.1 million views. That's not just among trailers or whatever, that's everything. Movies, shows, all of it.
They labeled it as an English language film which is kind of funny but whatever. It hit #1 in 87 out of 93 regions Netflix tracks. The second place thing was some movie called The Whisper Man with 23.2 million, so GTA 6 beat it by a decent margin.
Netflix counts a view as total hours watched divided by runtime, and they publish this data every Tuesday. The trailer went up on Netflix first, then hit Rockstar's YouTube channel six hours later. Rockstar's own upload has 17 million views but YouTube counts differently and a bunch of other channels hosted it too, so the total across platforms is way higher.
Netflix called the whole partnership with Rockstar a first of its kind thing. I guess it makes sense, Netflix has been scrambling for engagement after their stock tanked when they bailed on the Warner Bros Discovery deal. They're trying all sorts of stuff now, video podcasts, maybe adding Fox One and Peacock, even free ad supported content. A GTA 6 trailer is probably the biggest draw they could get.
I still think it's wild that a game trailer is topping Netflix charts. Like, people are logging into a streaming service to watch a six minute video about a game that's still months away. The hype is real. November 19 can't come soon enough.
Do you think this Netflix deal was a smart move for Rockstar or just a weird experiment that happened to work out?

31 million on Netflix plus 17 million on the Rockstar upload and all the reaction channels, that's insane for six minutes of footage. Funniest part for me is Netflix calling it an "English language film". Technically not wrong I guess, it did beat actual movies that week.
here in brazil my whole group chat was spamming links the second it dropped, couple of guys woke up early like it was a World Cup match or something. So yeah, smart move from Rockstar. Six hours exclusive on Netflix and people still watched twice, once there and once on YouTube. Free marketing on top of free marketing. And for Netflix it works too, they get to say the biggest thing on the platform was theirs first, even if only by six hours.
