£80, £90, £100? How much will Grand Theft Auto 6 cost? We ask the experts ahead of pre-orders opening this week

Pre-orders go live June 25th

So it's officially happening — GTA 6 pre-orders open this week on the 25th, and Rockstar marked the occasion by dropping that cover art reveal video. That thing already blasted past 10 million views on YouTube, which tells you everything about the hype level right now.

But here's the real question: what's this gonna cost us?

Eurogamer rounded up some analyst takes on pricing, and the numbers being thrown around are... well, they're something. We're hearing £80, £90, even £100 bandied about. That's a big jump from what we're used to paying at launch.

Look, we all knew GTA 6 was going to be premium-priced. Rockstar knows they've got the most anticipated game of the decade on their hands. The question is whether they push it into truly new territory for a standard edition or keep it somewhat grounded.

The game is still slated for November, so we've got a wait regardless of what we're shelling out.

I mean, are we really surprised? Games have been creeping up in price, and GTA 6 is basically guaranteed to print money regardless. But there's a difference between a fair premium and feeling like you're being taken for a ride (no pun intended).

What's your ceiling? Are you day-one no matter the price, or is there a number that makes you wait for a sale?

Seventy bucks to sit in a DGA screening room for two hours, nobody blinks. Rockstar's delivering a whole world to inhabit for months and we're counting pennies? That said, there's a difference between paying for Chinatown and paying for Speed 2. If they want premium pricing, the story needs to match. I'm day-one because I believe in the craft, but they've set their own bar at Michael Mann-level heist cinema. Anything less and we're the ones getting taken for a ride.

Honestly? If Vice City's map is even half as dense as Los Santos was, I'll pay the premium. GTA V gave us what, a decade of exploring every alleyway, underwater cave, and mountain trail? That's value per square mile that most games can't touch.

That said, £100 for standard edition is rough. I'm hoping the price hike means they've packed the world with the kind of environmental storytelling and hidden interiors that made GTA V worth revisiting years later. If it's just a bigger map with nothing in it, that's a different conversation.

Day one either way. The map alone is worth it.
