Fortnite is dangling 14 days of free skins right before gta 6 and it's not subtle

GamesRadar+ just ran a piece on Fortnite's Pirate Shop Access and I can't stop thinking about the timing. For the next 14 days, a handful of extremely lucky players can supposedly pull an almost unlimited stream of free skins, emotes, and other stuff. The catch is you basically have to win the lottery to get in. Their writeup says it's almost too good to be true and that thousands of people will grind all season just for a shot at it.
I read that and laughed. GTA 6 drops in two and a half weeks. Fortnite knows exactly what's about to happen to its daily login numbers. So they break the emergency glass and dangle a giant maybe in front of the player base to keep people from drifting off. It's a smart play on its own, but it also feels a little desperate when you look at the calendar.
I've got nothing against Fortnite. I've put a ton of hours into it over the years. But I'm not grinding a lottery ticket for cosmetics when Leonida is right there. My grind starts November 19. Epic can keep their Pirate Shop Access.
