Zelnick says they won't share GTA 6 preorder numbers because they could be misleading

So Take-Two's CEO just did an interview with Bloomberg and dropped a little nugget about why we're not getting any hard preorder figures for GTA 6. He says the numbers are "unprecedented" and have blown past every internal projection they had. But they're still not going to tell us what they actually are.

His reasoning? He's worried the raw data might give investors the wrong idea. Zelnick pointed out that nobody really knows what the demand curve looks like for a game this massive because, well, it's never happened before. He said preorders could just be pulling forward sales that would've happened anyway after launch. And he reminded everyone that a preorder isn't a sale until the game is actually out and the money is collected. "You can cancel a preorder," he said, which is true but also kind of funny coming from the guy who's been hyping up how insane the demand is.

This all came up during their latest earnings call where they also doubled down on the $80 price tag being "phenomenal value" and confirmed again that the game is absolutely not delayed. November 19 is the date.

I get the logic. If they drop a number like 50 million preorders and then a bunch of people cancel last minute, the headlines flip from "record-breaking" to "massive drop in GTA 6 preorders" overnight. But at the same time, it feels a little weird to keep bragging about how unprecedented it is while refusing to give any proof. What do you guys think, is this just smart PR or are they being a little too cagey?

Still, it'd be nice if they'd drop details on LSPD loadouts or wanted-level escalation instead of dancing around sales figures. I want to know if the AI finally uses proper containment protocols during four-star pursuits. Give me spike strip placement logic and air unit coordination. That's phenomenal value.

Zelnick can keep the accountant stuff under wraps. I'm more interested in whether the north face of Mount Kalaga has actual trails or if it's just a scenic backdrop. (Give me topo lines.)

I don't need a press release to tell me demand is high. I preordered the day it opened, between driving my kid to practice and fixing the garage door. For $80 it just needs to respect my time when November rolls around. I'll be lucky to get an hour a night.
