Twitch suffers major outage following Grand Theft Auto 6's extended look gameplay trailer premiere

Eurogamer's got a short piece up saying Twitch had a major outage not long after the extended look hit Netflix. I was watching a few streamers do live reactions and suddenly everything just froze. Chat stopped moving, streams buffered, the whole site went sideways for a bit.

I don't know if it was the sheer number of people jumping on Twitch to watch co-streams or just bad timing, but it's hard not to connect the dots. The extended look premiered on Netflix first, then YouTube later, so a lot of folks were probably sitting on Twitch waiting for their favorite creators to react. That kind of spike can wreck a platform.

Twitch has had outages before, sure. But the timing here is pretty funny. Rockstar drops the biggest look at GTA 6 we've had since the second trailer and suddenly Twitch can't keep up. I'm not saying GTA 6 broke Twitch, but I'm also not saying it didn't.

Either way, the hype is real. If a video can knock Twitch over, November is going to be absolute chaos.
