Fable reboot delayed to 2027 amid reported GTA 6 'worries'

Other studios are reportedly scared of GTA 6's shadow

So this is interesting — Playground Games just announced that the Fable reboot has been pushed all the way to February 2027. That's a pretty significant delay for a game a lot of people have been waiting on.

But here's where it gets relevant for us: the reported reason apparently involves GTA 6 worries. According to Eurogamer, the delay is tied at least partly to concerns about launching anywhere near Rockstar's next big thing.

And honestly? It makes total sense. We've all seen what happens when a Rockstar title drops — it doesn't just dominate the conversation, it basically consumes the entire gaming landscape for months. Other publishers have to scramble to avoid getting buried.

When GTA V launched, it was basically the only game anyone talked about for a ridiculous stretch of time. GTA 6 is shaping up to be even bigger.

Think about it — if you're Microsoft or any other publisher, do you really want your long-awaited RPG hitting shelves anywhere close to GTA 6? Probably not. The smart play is to give Rockstar a wide berth and let the dust settle first.

This could be the start of a trend where we see other major titles shuffling their release dates specifically to avoid clashing with GTA 6. We've seen this kind of release date juggling before with massive titles, but GTA has a way of clearing the schedule like nothing else in gaming.

What does this mean for the release calendar?

If studios are already moving projects to 2027 just to steer clear, the period around GTA 6's launch window is going to look pretty empty for competing AAA games. That's both a blessing and a curse — less competition for Rockstar, but also potentially some long dry spells for gamers who want variety.

It also raises the question of just how wide of a blast radius GTA 6 will have. Are we talking a few months of dominance, or could it stretch into an entire year of other publishers basically refusing to show up?

What other upcoming games do you think will end up delaying themselves out of GTA 6's way?

Smart move, honestly. I still remember how GTA V's launch swallowed everything for months — and that was before Online turned it into a permanent fixture. But I do wonder if studios are being too cautious here. Fable and GTA serve different audiences. Someone grinding through Three Leaf Clover or cruising Los Santos isn't necessarily skipping a fantasy RPG.

That said, the "big immersive world" crowd definitely overlaps. If I'm Playground, I'd rather launch clean in February than get buried in holiday noise. Just hope the extra time means more mission variety — Fable's always been light on that front compared to Rockstar's campaign design.

Smart move from Playground. Look at the numbers — GTA V launched in 2013 and players are still running nightclub AFK loops and grinding Cayo Perico on cooldown in 2024. That's a decade of player attention locked into one game's economy. When GTA 6 drops, the profit-per-hour crowd isn't touching another title for months, maybe years. Why compete for shelf space when Rockstar's business loops basically own the playerbase indefinitely? Expect more studios to do the math and bail on that window.

Honestly? Smart move. The release calendar is basically a game mechanic itself, and dropping your RPG next to GTA 6 is like walking into a mission severely underleveled.

I'm curious if we'll see a weird clustering effect — everyone delays to late 2027, and suddenly that window becomes just as crowded. The blast radius could push things further than people expect.

Would not be shocked if whatever Bethesda's cooking next also quietly slides backward.
