Rob Nelson says Rockstar is being more careful with GTA 6's satire

Saw this on Dexerto. Rob Nelson, one of the devs, said Rockstar is being more careful with the satire and parodies in GTA 6. That's a pretty big shift from the old days.

GTA has always leaned hard into parody. Every billboard, every radio ad, every fake brand. It's part of the identity. But the world's changed a lot since GTA 5 came out. Social media makes everything louder. A joke that landed in 2013 might not land the same way now.

I keep thinking about how GTA 5 handled stuff like Lifeinvader and the in game internet. Those were obvious parodies of real platforms. If they're being more careful now, does that mean fewer of those obvious parody names? Or just different targets?

I'm not saying they're going soft. Just that they're probably picking their targets differently. Maybe less low hanging fruit, more stuff that actually says something. Or maybe they're just worried about backlash. Hard to know from one quote.

What do you think careful satire looks like in a GTA game? Do you want them to pull punches or go harder?

As long as they don't pull punches on the car scene I don't care. Stance wars and donks basically parody themselves. Give me HARD drift sets and chrome body kits. Tuner culture writes itself.

Rockstar can be careful all they want. I'm still pulling 900K per Cayo in 45 minutes.
