Rockstar quietly gives us probably our best look at GTA 6's Vice City yet

Vice City looking absolutely gorgeous

So in case anyone missed it amid all the cover art hype today, Rockstar also slipped us something else pretty special — what's probably our clearest overview of Vice City so far. And honestly? It's stunning.

We've seen snippets and teases before, but this is the first time we're getting a proper wide-angle look at the layout and vibe of the whole city. That pink and purple skyline, the neon-soaked atmosphere — it's giving major classic Vice City energy but cranked up to a level we've never seen before.

What we're working with

The artwork shows Jason and Lucia front and center against that iconic cityscape, and the background detail is where the real juice is. You can really start to get a sense for the scale and layout of the map — something we've all been dying to analyze frame by frame since that first trailer dropped.

Rockstar being Rockstar, they didn't make a huge separate announcement about the map overview. Just quietly dropped it alongside the cover reveal. Classic move. They know we'll find it and dissect every single pixel anyway.

Why this matters

For those of us who've been mapping out every GTA since San Andreas, this kind of visual overview is gold. It's not a full top-down map or anything, but it's the most cohesive look at how the city fits together that we've gotten from official channels.

The original Vice City was obviously more limited by the tech of the PS2 era, but the spirit was there. Now we're getting that same neon-soaked criminal playground with modern hardware backing it up. The density, the lighting, the sheer scope — it's going to be a completely different experience exploring this version.

Quick reminder: this is all official Rockstar content, not some sketchy off-screen footage. What you see is what they want us to see.

Anyway, I've already spent way too long zooming in on every building and street I can make out. Anyone else spot anything interesting in the background details that we might've missed?

That waterfront district on the left side? Perfect for marine exfiltration routes. Already mentally mapping escape vectors off those docks.

Also noticing what looks like a financial district cluster mid-frame — multiple high-value targets within a few blocks means we can chain jobs if the cooldown system lets us. Two-person crew format with Jason and Lucia opens up some interesting role options: dedicated driver and operator, or split approach angles on the same target.

The highway overpass running through the center is going to be either our best friend or worst enemy depending on wanted level behavior.

That waterfront district on the left side with the low-rise marina buildings — immediate Portola Drive vibes from Los Santos, but the canals running through it look distinctly new. That's not just cosmetic either; waterways like that fundamentally change how you navigate a map.

Also, anyone else notice what looks like elevated highway structures cutting through the downtown core? If that's functional, we're looking at a completely different flow than GTA V's grid-based downtown. Los Santos had that flat, sprawl-out feel. Vice City looks vertical — the skyline density suggests way more interior-accessible buildings.

The mainland stretching off to the right is what really has me curious though. How far does it go?

That pink and purple skyline is screaming for a Wave 103 callback. The original Vice City's soul was that synth-heavy needle drop the second you stole a car and the radio kicked in. If this new layout can deliver that same mood — windows down, Emotion 98.3 humming as you cruise the coastline at dusk — then Rockstar's nailed it before we even hear the station lineups.

Also, quietly dropping this alongside the cover art? Very Vice City FM energy. Let the music do the talking.

That waterway running through the downtown area caught my eye immediately. If that's actually navigable — and given Rockstar's history with boat mechanics, it probably is — the physics implications are interesting. Current systems, wave behavior, how vehicles transition between land and water... Vice City's waterways were basically highways with a skin overlay.

Also wondering about those elevated highways. The draw distance in the artwork suggests they're rendering the full skyline at distance, which bodes well for how the engine handles LOD transitions when you're speeding through at ground level. That's where you usually see the seams.
