GTA 5 dev "can only imagine the size of GTA 6" – "It must be monstrous"

John Ricchio, who worked as a producer on GTA 5, dropped a little comment that's got me thinking. He said he can only imagine how big GTA 6 is going to be, and that it must be 'monstrous.'

He's not at Rockstar anymore so he doesn't have inside info, but the guy knows how they build these worlds. If someone who helped ship Los Santos is saying that, it just reinforces what we're all expecting. Leonida is already looking like a massive step up from anything we've seen before. Vice City, Port Gellhorn, the Keys, Grassrivers, Mount Kalaga... that's a lot of distinct biomes to stitch together.

I remember when GTA 5 felt endless, and now we're probably getting something that dwarfs it. The fact that a former dev is just as curious as we are makes the wait feel a little more shared, honestly.

What part of the map are you guys most excited to get lost in first? I'm leaning toward the swamps and backroads around Grassrivers.

Six confirmed regions across Leonida so far. Vice City, Port Gellhorn, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Mount Kalaga, and Ambrosia. (Rockstar's official site.) That's already double the biome variety GTA 5 launched with.

I've logged cuts at 0:34, 1:12, and 1:23 in Trailer 2. Three distinct biomes in under ninety seconds. The vehicle count is climbing too, though the quick cuts make exact IDs tricky.

Ricchio saying monstrous probably isn't hyperbole. Mount Kalaga and the Keys both suggest elevation changes that weren't possible on last gen hardware. With that kind of verticality, the map is going to feel larger than the raw square footage implies.
