rockstar's official gta online rp server closed beta is next week, watch only

Saw Eurogamer's piece on this. Rockstar hasn't said a word about what GTA 6's online side looks like, but they're suddenly pushing an official RP server for GTA Online. A closed beta starts next week and it's watch-only, tied to NoPixel 5.
That's kind of wild. The RP community has been carrying GTA Online for years on third party servers. NoPixel especially. Rockstar making their own official thing feels like they finally noticed.
Watch-only beta is a weird choice though. You can't actually play, just spectate? I guess they want to show off the systems without letting people break them yet. Or maybe it's a stress test for the server infrastructure before they open it up.
I'm mostly curious if this is a sign of what GTA 6 online will be. If they're investing in official RP now, maybe the next game's multiplayer is built with that in mind from the start. That would be huge. GTA Online's RP scene is massive but it's all modded clients and private servers. An official version with Rockstar's resources could be something else.
NoPixel 5 being involved is interesting too. That's the big one. If Rockstar is working with them directly, that's a pretty big endorsement of the RP scene.
Anyway, closed beta next week. Watch-only. I'll be keeping an eye on it even if I can't get in. If this is a preview of how GTA 6 handles roleplay, I'm all for it.

Rockstar acquired the Cfx.re team (FiveM and RedM) in August 2023, so this has been in motion for about three years. The watch-only format tracks. Spectator clients load the server less than actual players, and they can log every system without anyone prodding at exploits. On the GTA 6 question, there's still zero official word on what that game's online mode even is.
