GTA 6 DualSense Controller Scalpers Are Already Cashing In

After the 25th anniversary Xbox and the Zelda Switch 2 got cleaned out, the GTA 6 DualSense was the obvious next target. Sony listed both designs at $84 each, but scalpers are already selling them on eBay for around $140 a pop. The white one is out of stock already, and the black version is still up for preorder on PlayStation Direct. People are actually paying above MSRP for a controller that doesn't ship until November 19, which is launch day for GTA 6.

What gets me is eBay's own presale policy says listings have to ship within 40 business days. These controllers are months out, so every single one of those listings is breaking the rules. eBay just isn't enforcing it, same as always. The white model seems to be the popular choice, probably because of that color-shifting finish. The black one has palm tree details molded into the body, which sounds cool too, but the white is the one everyone wants.

Sony hasn't said anything about a GTA 6 themed PS5 console, which feels like a missed opportunity. They did make two Wolverine consoles for their next exclusive, so maybe something is coming later. For now the controllers are the only GTA 6 hardware, and scalpers are treating them like gold.

I'm not paying $140 for a controller that's $84 at retail, but clearly some people are. Anyone else trying to grab one at retail or are we all just waiting to see if Sony restocks the white?

That's the part that gets me. You're paying a $56 premium to pre-order someone else's pre-order. The thing isn't even in their hands yet.

And of course the white one is the hot item. Color-shifting finish, thin stock, launch day tie-in. Sony knew exactly what it was doing at $84 with limited supply. Scalpers aren't the disease here, they're the symptom. Manufactured scarcity is the business model, same play every time.

No themed console yet? That's coming. They sat on the Wolverine consoles until it suited them too. I'd put money on a Leonida PS5 showing up next year, probably timed for when the hype needs another hit.

Wait for restocks. The controller still works in February.

The eBay policy gap is the interesting part to me. Forty business days is roughly eight weeks, so a November ship date blows way past that. I might be wrong, but I don't think eBay's enforcement is automated at all, seems like it only kicks in if someone actually reports the listing. Which means these just sit up indefinitely.

Also curious whether the color-shifting finish is why the white one specifically got cleaned out, or if it's just lower stock numbers.

Man, remember when the biggest hardware decision was which color memory card you wanted. October 2004, I walked into a mall, bought San Andreas, and that was the entire transaction. No pre-order tiers, no $84 controller with a color-shifting finish, no guy three states away flipping my purchase back to me.

This. That sentence is modern gaming in miniature.

And glitchtester is right about eBay. They won't lift a finger unless someone reports every single listing by hand, and they take their cut either way, so why would they.

Black one looks better anyway. Palm trees molded into the body... that's proper Vice City energy. The white feels like it's trying too hard. I'll wait for a restock, or I'll just play launch night on my regular pad like some kind of animal.
