GTA 6 Targeting 30fps on PS5, Undecided on Performance Mode

Push Square dropped a bit of news about how GTA 6 is running on PS5 right now. Apparently Rockstar is aiming for 30fps as the target, and they haven't decided if a Performance Mode will make it in later.

That's the kind of thing a lot of us were half expecting, but seeing it in print still stings a little. The PS5 Pro gets mentioned too. It has a stronger GPU, sure, but the CPU is basically the same story, so doubling the frame rate to 60 probably isn't happening there either.

I keep going back and forth on this. GTA 5 on PS4 was 30fps and it felt fine for the time, but after playing the PS5 version at 60 it's hard to go back. If GTA 6 is as dense as the trailers suggest, with all those NPC routines and the traffic and the weather, maybe 30 is the tradeoff for keeping all that simulation intact.

Still, Rockstar hasn't ruled out a Performance Mode entirely. The wording is that they're undecided, which leaves the door open. Could be a post launch patch, could be a Pro specific mode, could be nothing. I'd rather they take the time and get the base experience right than ship a choppy 60 mode that tanks resolution.

What do you all think, would you take a lower res 60fps mode if it meant some of the world simulation got cut back, or is 30fps with everything cranked the right call for a game like this?

30fps in 2026 is a tough pill. I'd take lower res 60fps and strip some world sim if I gotta. Smooth drifting beats shiny reflections. Give us that PERFORMANCE mode Rockstar. Traction over paint.

strip some world sim

I'd rather keep the density. Vice City was 30fps in 2002 on a CRT and it felt perfect...
