criminal profile points from petting a dog makes no sense to me

TGG's breakdown of the criminal profile system left me more confused than before. He said it's not a morality system like RDR2, which I was already on board with. But then in the trap house scene Jason pets the dog and his criminal profile goes up. What does that have to do with being a criminal?

I thought the whole point was that the profile tracks how you perform as a criminal. Like maybe successful heists, clean getaways, not leaving witnesses, that kind of thing. But petting a dog? That's just being a decent person. If that raises your criminal profile, then the system is tracking way more than crime.

Now I'm wondering what other non-criminal stuff moves the needle. Does buying food help? Talking to NPCs? Working out? If the profile is supposed to reflect your reputation in the underworld, why would any of that matter?

Maybe the profile is more like a notoriety meter and petting the dog is just a small interaction that shows Jason is relaxed or blending in. But that still feels weird. You'd think a criminal profile would go up when you do criminal things, not when you're nice to animals.

I'm not saying it's a bad system, I just want to know what actually feeds into it. If it's a mix of criminal and social actions, fine, but then calling it a criminal profile is misleading. It's more like a general reputation or presence meter. And if that's the case, I hope Rockstar explains it before launch because I don't want to be guessing which random activities affect my standing.

Anyway, that dog scene has me overthinking the whole thing. I'll probably still pet every dog I see, but now I'll be wondering if it's messing with my profile.
