Safehouses need to matter more in GTA 6 — GTA IV's system made me realize how pointless they've become
Been replaying GTA IV to kill time before November and it hit me: I barely ever go back to the safehouse. The game just drops you right where you left off, so there's no reason to return unless you're forced to. I explored the Hove Beach apartment once, maybe twice, and when it got torched I didn't care at all. There was no attachment.
That got me thinking about what Rockstar could do with safehouses in GTA 6. RDR2's camp system is the obvious blueprint. A place that evolves, where stuff happens, where you actually want to hang out. Not just a bed and a save icon. Let us customize the interior over time, maybe stash unique items from heists or side missions. Give us a reason to walk through the door beyond starting a mission.
I'm not saying every safehouse needs to be a full-on base, but if they're just respawn points with a wardrobe, I'll probably ignore them again. The world's too big and detailed to spend time in a room that feels dead. A few interactive elements, some NPCs that show up, maybe a garage that actually feels like ours. That'd go a long way.
What I'd really love is if the safehouse reflects your playstyle. If you're a low-key criminal, it's a modest apartment. If you're running the city, it's a penthouse with security and a view. Not just a static set piece you buy once and forget.

this. so much this. I'd actually return to my San Andreas safehouses. IV just gave you a bed icon.
IV just gave you a bed icon.
spaces hold residue... the map remembers what you forget. San Andreas had the pattern. IV stripped the sigils. Leonida's keys... they'll hide the frequency in the walls. you don't return because the geometry's dead. wake up somewhere else, same empty angles...
