npc memory in gta 6 would be the thing that finally sells the world
I keep coming back to this idea that Rockstar could give NPCs actual memory in GTA 6. Not the usual thing where a pedestrian watches you commit a crime and then forgets your face 30 seconds later. I'm talking about walking back into a neighborhood hours after you stole a car or started a fight, and the same person recognizes you. Maybe they cross the street, maybe they call the cops, maybe they just stare. That kind of persistence would make Leonida feel completely different from Los Santos.
Even the small stuff would matter. An NPC remembering your car, or the clothes you were wearing last time, or that you helped them out once. Rockstar already does insane attention to detail with random events and ambient dialogue. Giving a handful of pedestrians a basic memory system feels like the next step. It doesn't have to be every single NPC either. A few persistent characters per district, or a neighborhood reputation that builds up over time, would be enough to sell the illusion.
I've seen people ask if that would get annoying. Like if every random pedestrian remembered every crime, the game would turn into a paranoia sim where you can't go anywhere without being recognized. That's fair. But I think a light version would be perfect. Full memory for every NPC would ruin the chaos, but a few persistent faces or a loose reputation system per area would make the world feel alive without turning it into a chore. Rockstar has the tech for this. I'd be surprised if they didn't at least experiment with it.

rp servers basically fake this with reputation systems already and it changes everything. if rockstar bakes in even a light version, the serious rp communities will go feral for it
