How deep could the Jason and Lucia relationship mechanics go in GTA 6?
I keep coming back to the fact that for the first time in a Rockstar game, the two leads are a couple. Not just partners in crime, but actually in a relationship. That opens up a ton of possibilities for how the game could react to the way you play them.
The source post on reddit got me thinking about the small stuff. Like, if you keep Jason away from Lucia for hours of free roam, does she start acting colder in cutscenes? Or if you switch to her and she's been off doing her own thing, does Jason comment on it when they meet up? Rockstar's already done something similar with camp interactions in RDR2, where gang members would notice if you'd been gone a while. But this is a romantic relationship, so the stakes feel higher.
Appearance changes could be a fun detail too. Imagine Lucia getting a dramatic haircut and Jason having a reaction, positive or negative, depending on his personality. Or maybe they mirror each other's style over time if you keep them close. I'm not expecting full-on dating sim mechanics, but even small acknowledgements would make the bond feel real.
Then there's the trust angle. The trailers hint at some tension, maybe a Bonnie and Clyde dynamic where loyalty gets tested. Could your choices in missions affect how much they trust each other? If you make Jason too reckless and Lucia gets hurt, does she start second-guessing the partnership? That could lead to branching dialogue or even different mission outcomes. Rockstar's never really done relationship-driven branching before, but with two protagonists, it feels like the natural next step.
I'm also curious about gameplay consequences. If they're separated in the open world, do you get some kind of debuff? Or maybe a buff when they're together, like better coordination during heists. The source post mentioned one going off into the woods alone, and I could see that triggering a worried phone call or a mission to go find them.
What do you all think? Would you want the relationship to have real mechanical weight, or just be a narrative backdrop?
