Could GTA 6 actually have surfing? Rockstar's engine history suggests it's possible
I stumbled on something that's probably nothing, but my brain won't let it go. Rockstar actually tried making a surfing game way back, developed in Japan on the Opus engine. It was so forgettable most people don't even know it existed, and I'm not surprised. But then Angel Studios, before they became Rockstar San Diego, put out Transworld Surf. That one ran on the AGE engine, which is literally the granddaddy of RAGE. And now GTA 6 is running on RAGE 9.
So the bones for wave physics and board control have been sitting in Rockstar's tech for decades. They've got the water tech, they've got the animation blending, and Leonida is basically one giant coastline. It's not a huge leap to think they could dust off some of that old surf logic and flesh it out into a proper side activity. I'm not saying it's guaranteed, but the pieces are there if they wanted to do it.
I'd love to see it. Imagine cruising up to Vice Beach, grabbing a board off the roof of a Sandking, and paddling out while a storm rolls in. Rockstar's water physics in RDR2 were already insane, and GTA 6 is supposed to push that even further. Even if it's just a minigame or a random event, it'd fit the vibe perfectly. But I'm keeping my expectations low, this is the same company that gave us yoga instead of basketball in V.

Surfing's cool. I'm just hoping water pursuit AI lets cops chase perps through breakers without the patrol boat despawning.
