jason's vibe changes so much between trailers i'm starting to think there's a time jump
Been rewatching the marketing stuff and Jason keeps throwing me off. In some shots he's got that laid back cocky surfer energy, like he doesn't have a care in the world. Then other moments he seems way more on edge, voice sounds deeper, whole demeanor is mellow in a nervous way. The attitude shift is one thing, but his actual look changes pretty hard between appearances.
I know Rockstar's body weight and muscle mechanics could explain some of that. They've done wild stuff with character models before. But the difference feels bigger than just hitting the gym or eating too much. It reads like two different periods of his life.
Lucia might be part of it too. We haven't seen nearly enough of her to be sure, but if Jason changes that much, a time jump for both of them makes sense. A few years between acts would let Rockstar show them before and after whatever goes down in the story. Maybe the chill surfer Jason is early on and the tense one is later, or the other way around.
Could also just be different builds of the game across trailers. Rockstar tweaks faces, hair, lighting, all of it. But the voice thing is what gets me. You don't change a performance that much unless it's intentional.
We're working with scraps so any read is a stretch. Still, I'd put money on some kind of time skip being in there. Rockstar loves a structure where you see the fallout first and then flash back, or a clean break between chapters. GTA V did the multiple protagonists thing, RDR2 had the big shift later on. A time jump in GTA 6 wouldn't surprise me at all.
Either way the range they're showing with Jason already has me more interested in the story than I expected.
