connecting the dots between Take-Two patents and HipHopGamer's recent claims
Been digging through some of Take-Two's recent patents after watching HipHopGamer's latest video and honestly, the pieces fit together way too well to ignore. He keeps saying that even something as basic as stealing a car is gonna feel completely different this time around, and there's a patent that basically describes exactly how.
The patent covers runtime animation retargeting, which is a fancy way of saying your character will dynamically adapt to whatever vehicle they're hopping into. Different roof heights, seat positions, window sizes, door types, even where the gear shift and handbrake are placed. No more canned animations that look the same every time. It even mentions the animation continuing if another car smashes into you mid-entry, which sounds chaotic in the best way.
But it goes way beyond vehicles. The same tech covers climbing walls, using ladders with uneven rung spacing, jumping through windows of different sizes, picking up weapons from weird surfaces, leaning against objects, recovering from ragdoll states, and physically interacting with other characters. Your character just figures out how to perform the action based on what's actually around them. HipHopGamer's quote about "it's what happens around you that creates new control" lines up almost word for word with the patent language.
There's also older patents for locomotion that changes based on injury, exhaustion, weather, temperature, water depth, carrying objects, being drunk, sick, or armed. Imagine your movement system constantly reacting to your current condition and surroundings. And then you've got patents for large-scale NPC road navigation, procedural population systems, cop spawning, continuous LOD for huge cities, and environmental lighting. The goal seems to be making thousands of different combinations of characters, objects, vehicles, and situations interact naturally without manually scripting every possibility.
The part that really got me though is how HipHopGamer mentioned Jason and Lucia aren't just two characters you switch between, there are ways they can actually do things together. Rockstar's newer animation patent specifically supports synchronized interactions between multiple characters and objects on shared animation timelines. Coordinated robberies, handoffs, takedowns, environmental interactions involving both protagonists, the pieces are all there.
Patents don't guarantee anything, but when they line up this perfectly with what insiders are saying, it's hard not to get hyped. What kind of dynamic interactions are you hoping to see between Jason and Lucia?
