those wanted level icons might mean the cops remember you

Caught this in the latest footage and haven't seen anyone break it down yet. When Jason gets a wanted level, three little icons pop up next to the stars. A clothes hanger, a head silhouette, and a vehicle. At first I thought they were just cosmetic, but the more I look at them the more it seems like Rockstar is hinting at a whole identification system.

Here's what I think each one means:

  • Clothes hanger = your outfit has been identified by the police
  • Head silhouette = your face has been identified
  • Vehicle = your car has been identified

So instead of the old system where a wanted level just means cops spawn and chase you for a few minutes, this could be something way more persistent. Like a one or two star wanted level might last multiple in game days. The cops aren't actively hunting you down the whole time, but they're on the lookout for a male or female matching your description. That changes everything about how you approach heat.

If your face is burned, you'd need to change your appearance. Different hair, maybe a hat, sunglasses, whatever. If your outfit is flagged, swap clothes. If your car is flagged, you either change the plate, repaint it, or ditch it entirely. Otherwise every cop you pass might trigger their attention. That's a huge incentive to actually use the customization systems instead of just running around in the same outfit for 50 hours.

I'm all for it if it means wanted levels actually matter beyond a timer. GTA 5's system was way too forgiving. You could commit a massacre, hide in an alley for 90 seconds, and walk out like nothing happened. This sounds like it would make you think twice about every crime, which fits the whole Bonnie and Clyde vibe they're going for with Lucia and Jason. The only thing I'm wondering is how it scales. Does a five star wanted level mean they know everything about you instantly? Or does it build up over time as you commit more crimes? Either way, this is the kind of small detail that could make the world feel way more alive.

I've been studying those same three icons and I think you're reading them right. The hanger, silhouette, and vehicle symbol aren't just HUD clutter. They're discrete tracking variables.

It reminds me of how GTA IV handled the search radius, except this sounds way more granular. If the system actually logs your outfit and license plate between missions, completing the campaign with zero deaths suddenly requires actual prep work. You can't just tank a two-star and respawn at the hospital. You'll need a wardrobe change and a respray before starting the next strand.

My only worry is pacing during marathon sessions. If every minor felony turns into a multi-day manhunt, completion percentages might drop for casual players. Still, it's a massive upgrade from the 90-second timeout in GTA V. Finally the world has memory.
