mendes scene timeline theory, trailer 1 vs extended look
Been going through trailer 1 frame by frame again and there's this one cut that always throws me off. Jason and Lucia get grabbed by two cops, then a third one questions them while Lucia's wearing a wig. It's so abrupt, like it doesn't belong with the rooftop meeting stuff around it. First time I saw it I thought it was a flashback or something.
But now I think it's actually a huge story beat. Remember that line from Brian? "They got your name, address, they got everything." And when they're running from the S4S Projects raid, someone yells out Mendes by name. That cop is clearly after them for a reason.
So here's my theory. That arrest scene with the wig? That's the trouble. They saw something they shouldn't have, and that's why Mendes is hunting them. The scene where Mendes and his goons kill that jumpsuit cop? That happens after this arrest. Like the arrest is the inciting incident, and Mendes is the fallout.
And I don't think Lucia's arrest is just the intro where she gets released. That would be too clean. I think we get a whole chapter where she's locked up, maybe playable inside prison, and Jason's on the outside trying to figure things out. Rockstar's done prison stuff before, but this could be way more involved. The two scenes are definitely the same characters, same location. The jumpsuit cop getting taken out by Mendes' crew seals it for me.
I'm not saying I've cracked the whole plot, but this feels like the kind of thing Rockstar would hide in plain sight. They love making you rewatch trailers after the game comes out and go "oh shit, that was right there."

The wig bust always felt like a weird needle drop next to the rooftop stuff, totally different mood! If that's the inciting incident, the rewatch payoff is gonna be sweet.
The wig bust as the inciting incident actually tracks. Prison chapter sounds fun, but that's the worst grind window ever, zero dollars an hour, no Cayo access.
