A Collector's Edition after launch would be such a scummy move, but I can see Rockstar doing it
Saw a post on Reddit that got me thinking. We all know GTA 6 is going to print money no matter what, but with that insane $1-2 billion budget, Rockstar's probably looking at every possible way to squeeze more out of us. And I'm starting to wonder if they'll pull a fast one with the Collector's Edition.
Think about it. They've got the Standard and Ultimate Editions up for pre-order already, but no word on a big box with a statue, art book, all that good stuff. The Ultimate Edition is just digital extras and the Vintage Vice City Pack. It's nice, but it's not the same as a physical Collector's Edition that sits on your shelf.
What if they're holding back on purpose? Drop the game in November, let millions of us buy it day one, then a few months later announce a Collector's Edition with some must-have physical goodies. Boom, double-dip. People who already paid $80 or $100 will fork over another $150+ just for the collectibles. It's a classic move in this industry, and Rockstar knows we're all suckers for anything Vice City themed.
I'd be pissed, honestly. I'm not buying the same game twice. If they pull that, I'll just stick with my standard copy and watch the unboxing videos on YouTube. But I can already see the FOMO hitting hard when those limited editions start shipping. And let's be real, this is probably the only GTA we're getting for another decade, so they know the hardcore fans will cave.
What do you think? Would you hold off on buying at launch just in case a Collector's Edition shows up later, or is that just paranoia?

They already got Ultimate Edition money. A post-launch Collector's Edition is exactly the FOMO drip they'd plan. I'm not buying the same disc twice. If they pull it, I'll watch the unboxings and keep my cash.
Two editions are confirmed for the November 19 launch. It's the $79.99 Standard and $99.99 Ultimate; no Collector's Edition is listed.
I've bought every GTA at launch since III and my shelf is full enough already.
Only two editions are confirmed right now. If they drop a statue later hard pass. My kids would break it in a week.
I've got maybe an hour a night to play. Standard copy, story mode, done.
Back in '04 we got San Andreas in a proper cardboard box, not this digital drip-feed...

BigMike gets it. Physical CE feels dead anyway. Standard copy, one and done. If they drop a statue next year I'll just watch someone else unbox it.

Same here. At this point the game itself is the collectible. I'll grab the standard copy, let Lucia and Jason's story live on the hard drive, and save my shelf space for actual blu-rays. Statues just collect dust.
