i hope jason actually makes a sandwich when we get back to the safehouse
I keep thinking about the safehouse after a job. You walk in, Lucia's behind you, and then what? If she just stands in the doorway like a mannequin it's going to kill the vibe fast. Rockstar put so much detail into the world, I'm hoping the partner AI got the same treatment.
The dream is Jason flops on the couch, grabs a beer, messes with the TV. Maybe Lucia heads to the closet and starts sorting clothes while you're in a store. In a garage Jason could be at the workbench actually doing something, not just staring at a wall. Small stuff, but it sells the idea they're people and not just a second gun.
We already saw Lucia leaning on the car while Jason picks the lock. That one shot gave me hope. She's not just standing at attention, she's waiting like a real person would. But that's a scripted moment. The question is whether it holds up in free roam when you're doing nothing for ten minutes.
Hunting is the one that worries me most. If we're crouched in the grass lining up a deer and Lucia is just standing there looking menacing at it, that's going to look dated instantly. Does she crouch with you? Does she whisper? Does she spook the animal? I'd rather have her hang back at the truck than break the moment.
My fear is the classic open world partner problem. Rockstar has done better with companions in RDR2, but GTA 6 is a different scale. There are so many mundane moments where a partner can look wrong. Walking into a store, waiting at a red light, standing in an elevator. I don't need full sims level routines, just enough idle variety that I don't notice the loop.
If they nail it, the safehouse becomes somewhere I actually want to spend time. If not, it's just a spawn point I run through on the way out.

The hunting one is the real test. A partner who reads the moment, crouches down, goes quiet, that's character work. Lucia standing there glaring at a deer would play like an extra wandering into frame during a hushed scene.
RDR2's camp gives me hope though. People chopped wood, played cards, bickered over nothing. Ambient behavior, barely scripted. Give Jason and Lucia half of that and the safehouse stops being a spawn point.
