if random npcs have routines too, i'm never getting anything done in leonida
I keep thinking about the routine stuff they showed for Jason and Lucia. Like when you're not controlling one of them they still go about their day, sleep, eat, whatever. That alone is a big deal. But the previews also hinted that random NPCs do their own crimes and react in ways even Rockstar didn't fully script. So now I'm imagining how deep that could go.
I don't mean watching some guy walk to work and back. I mean overhearing a phone call outside a bar where a dude tells his girl he's heading home, then immediately calls someone else and says he'll be there in ten. You follow him across town to a motel and he's meeting another woman. You could snap a photo, confront him, or just let him ruin his own relationship. That's the kind of emergent mess I want.
Smaller stuff too. Someone calls their boss claiming they're sick while they're getting drunk on the beach. A woman says she's working late and then you spot her at a club. A rich guy at a beach bar brags about taking his dad's yacht out later, so you tail him and there's an actual party offshore with people jumping off the boat and the Coast Guard showing up. All from one throwaway line you happened to hear.
It could get darker. Two guys talking about someone who owes them money, then later you see them dragging that same guy out of a house. Someone leaves a club threatening their ex's new boyfriend and a fight breaks out in a parking lot. A drunk guy insists he's fine to drive and twenty minutes later his car is wrapped around a pole. Sometimes you'd only find the aftermath, an ambulance, cops questioning someone, a car abandoned with blood on the seat, and you piece it together yourself.
And sometimes it's just weird. You follow some sketchy dude making cryptic calls into the middle of nowhere expecting a drug deal, and instead he pulls into an adult store called Hole Lotta Love, disappears through a locked door, comes back out acting normal, and you realize he drove halfway across Leonida just for a glory hole. There's even a sign about no refunds and no eye contact.
The best part is there'd be no marker telling you which conversations matter. You just hear something that catches your attention and decide to be nosy. Not every lead would pay off either. Sometimes you follow someone expecting chaos and they just go get tacos. Other times a totally boring situation turns into something unhinged. I already know I'd waste way too much time tailing random people around Leonida just to see what dumb thing they do next.
