gloriana plates keep showing up and i think they matter more than we think

Those Gloriana plates in the trailers have been bugging me. People keep saying it's Georgia or Virginia or some mashup, and I'm not about to settle that debate. What I keep coming back to is why Rockstar bothered naming a whole new state just to stick it on a license plate.

The obvious answer is that the in-game internet won't be all Leonida all the time. If the social media feed is supposed to feel like an actual feed, you'd expect posts from Los Santos and Liberty City and maybe some places we've never been. Gloriana could just be one of those background states that shows up in comments or usernames or little video clips. Most of the feed still has to be Leonida stuff because that's where the missions and strangers are, but a few posts from elsewhere would make it feel less like the whole country is one state.

But I keep thinking about the plates themselves. What if you can swap them? Like you steal a car, change the paint, then swap the plate so it doesn't match the description. That would actually make all these different state plates useful. You could pull a North Yankton plate off some parked car and slap it on your getaway vehicle. Maybe there's a little collection angle to it too, cruising around trying to find plates from every state that exists in this version of America.

I don't know if Rockstar would go that deep with it. Could just be flavor. But they made Gloriana for a reason, and a plate swapping mechanic would be a very Rockstar way to make that reason matter. Either way I'm going to be paying way more attention to the plates in the next trailer.
