jason and lucia might not know each other at the start, and brian is the middleman
Been turning this over since the extended look. The obvious read is Jason already works for Brian, Jason knows Lucia, and once she gets out he introduces her. But I don't think that's how it starts.
I think Jason and Lucia have never met before that pickup scene in trailer 2. Rockstar's own site says something like meeting Lucia could be the best or worst thing to ever happen to him. That wording only makes sense if their first interaction is in front of us.
So why is Jason the one picking her up from prison? My guess is Brian has history with Lucia's family through whatever business they're in. But her family is back in Liberty City, and she's stuck in Leonida with an ankle monitor. They reach out to Brian as their local contact to keep an eye on her until she can come home.
Brian doesn't want to do it himself, so he dumps it on Jason. Makes him share his place. Probably with some line about living rent free and getting a roommate whether he likes it or not. That forced proximity would explain how they get close fast without some instant romance.
The one thing that keeps nagging me is the elevator scene in the extended look. Lucia is the one who says don't worry about Brian, he's retired. If Jason had known Brian for years, shouldn't he be the one reassuring her? Unless Brian has been a family friend since she was a kid and Jason is the newcomer to that dynamic.
Does the elevator line feel like the biggest tell to anyone else, or am I reading way too much into a throwaway?
