the fixed lucia and jason dynamic theories don't line up with what rockstar keeps saying
I keep seeing these character breakdowns on youtube and reddit where Lucia is this volatile force and Jason just wants a quiet life, and I think people are ignoring two things Rockstar has hammered since the first reveal.
First, the game has choices big and small that alter story and character outcomes. They've said it's designed for replayability, to go back and make different choices and see different things. Second, free roam actions and choices in the open world are supposed to be tied into each protagonist's identity and story as much as possible. Rob Nelson stressed that himself.
Those design philosophies mean Jason can canonically be the most unhinged psychopath this side of Sandy Shores and Trevor Phillips. They also mean the main narrative has to be significantly variable.
So this idea I keep seeing, that the immutable backbone of the story is basically a crazy and volatile Lucia leading a low profile, workman like Jason who only wants peace and quiet down a dangerous path, starts to seem implausible. Or any other highly specific and set in stone character beats you can imagine.
All the choices and actions you take inevitably leading into that one forced dynamic doesn't mesh with the game as it's been presented. There's also the purely practical matter of how a story with that one track would work post game in any elegant, non awkward sense.
I really have no idea how it caught on so much. It feels like people are writing fanfic before the game's out and treating it as canon. I get why it's fun, but it doesn't survive contact with how Rockstar keeps describing the systems.

That line got me. The free roam point is the sleeper here, though. If world actions feed identity, the map itself ends up doing character work (Blaine County basically was Trevor's personality in GTA V). I'd bet certain corners of Leonida, Port Gellhorn versus downtown Vice City, naturally lean toward one lead. Fixed fanfic dynamics can't survive that.
