holding off on the ultimate edition because i don't want to skip early game progression
I keep going back and forth on this and it's driving me nuts. I want the Ultimate Edition, but I also know how these editions usually work. You get a pile of guns and a few nice cars right at the start. That sounds great until you actually load into free roam for the first time and you're already stacked.
I don't want that. The early hours of a Rockstar game are about scraping by, using whatever junk pistol you can find, stealing some beat up sedan because it's all you can afford. If I've got a bunch of high end stuff sitting in my inventory from minute one, that whole feeling is gone. Yeah I could just ignore the bonus items, but knowing they're one menu click away would bug me even more. I'd be sitting there with a basic pistol thinking about the free rifle I'm not using.
It reminds me of 2K handing out legendary guns at the start of a Borderlands run. It completely wrecks the progression curve. I want GTA 6 to feel like a Rockstar title, not a game where I paid extra to skip the struggle.
My current plan is to wait maybe a week of in game playtime before I grab the upgrade. By then I'll have earned some stuff on my own and the bonus gear won't feel like a cheat code. It'll just be extra toys after I've already put in the work.
Anyone else thinking the same way? Would you grab the Ultimate Edition day one or wait until you've put some hours into the story?

Fair point, but you're looking at it backwards (map nerd opinion). Being broke forces you to actually learn the streets. Early GTA V I knew every alley in Davis because I kept ditching cops there. Broke Jason hoofing it through Port Gellhorn with a junk pistol means you'll memorize shortcuts before you ever fast travel past them. The gear can wait. The map knowledge can't.
