30fps is the right call for gta 6, rockstar is playing the long game

The 30fps whining has gotten out of hand. Every time someone brings up GTA 6 performance, there's a crowd acting like 30fps is some kind of insult. I get it, we've been spoiled by performance modes this gen. Rockstar is making a simulation that's supposed to last a decade.

Here's the thing people keep missing. Framerate is the easiest thing to improve later. A PS6 or a PC port can bump that to 60fps without touching the core systems. What you can't easily upgrade is the simulation itself. The NPC routines, the traffic AI, the way the world reacts to you. If Rockstar had to design GTA 6 around hitting 60fps on current consoles, they'd have to cut corners on all of that. And those cuts would be permanent. You can't just patch in a deeper simulation when better hardware arrives.

I was actually worried Rockstar would cave to the 60fps crowd. Glad they didn't. Locking the console version to 30fps means every bit of their manpower went into making the world as dense and reactive as possible. We'll get a 60fps version eventually, probably with the next console generation in 2027 or 2028, or whenever the PC version drops. By then the game will still feel fresh because the foundation is so strong.

Some people say Rockstar should just develop for high end PCs and ignore console limits. That's not how this works. No studio is going to spend this much money to sell to a tiny slice of the market. The console base is where the sales are, and 30fps is the tradeoff for getting a simulation that actually feels alive.

Performance can always be improved later. The core of a game is what it is forever.
