rockstar was nervous about rdr2 having one protagonist after gta 5, and now i'm thinking about gta 6's duo

Saw a GamesRadar piece about how Rockstar was feeling slightly nervous going into Red Dead Redemption 2 because GTA 5 had three protagonists and they worried fans would get bored with just Arthur. The phrase they used was something like suffering from success, which is pretty funny when you think about it.

GTA 5's character switching was a huge deal back in 2013. You had Michael, Franklin, and Trevor, and you could bounce between them mid-mission. It felt fresh. So I get why the devs were sweating a bit when RDR2 was coming together with only one playable character. They probably thought players would miss that variety.

But RDR2 turned out fine. Arthur Morgan is one of the most loved protagonists Rockstar has ever made. Nobody was bored. The slower pace and the single perspective actually made the story hit harder. So the worry was real but the outcome was fine.

Now I'm looking at GTA 6 with Lucia and Jason, two protagonists. Not three, not one. Feels like Rockstar found a middle ground. Maybe they learned from both games. GTA 5 showed them the fun of switching, RDR2 showed them the depth of focusing on one person. Two might be the sweet spot. You get the relationship dynamic, the different perspectives, but you don't spread the story too thin.

I'm not saying Rockstar has said anything about this. Just my own read. But it makes sense. Two characters means you can still have those switch moments without losing the emotional core. And with Lucia and Jason being a couple, the switching probably ties into the story in a way GTA 5's trio never did.

Anyway, I think two is the right call. Enough variety to keep things interesting, but not so many that nobody gets enough screen time. We'll see how it plays out in November.

Three protagonists meant three garages to keep stocked. That's the part I liked. Trevor's taste in cars was a crime though.

Two works for me. Driver and spotter vibes. And if Lucia and Jason share a garage that's even better for the story. I just need at least one of them to know how to slide a car properly. That's ALL I ask.
