Well, that settles it. I was holding out hope for some kind of RDR2 style hair growth but Rob Nelson flat out said no in the Davy Jones transcript. Rockstar sent that transcript over themselves, so it's not some random rumor.

He said they thought about it, but it came down to realism versus customizability. With the pace of GTA 6's world, they'd rather let you walk in and do whatever you want with your character. No waiting for a beard to fill in.

The TGG quote goes further. You can mess with your hair a bit in the safehouse, cut it shorter, shave it. But if you want actual styles, you hit a barber or salon. He made the comparison to RDR2 pretty clear. In that game your hair grows and you cut it. In GTA 6, you just go to a shop and pick what you want. He called it the difference between GTA immediacy and RDR2's more realistic take.

I get why they did it. GTA has always been about instant gratification. You don't want to wait in game weeks for a fade. But I'm still a little bummed. RDR2's hair system was one of those small things that made the world feel alive. I liked watching Arthur's beard get scruffy after a few days in the wilderness.

Plenty of people are probably happy about this. A lot of folks hated having to maintain Arthur's hair or chug hair tonic. I'm not one of them, but I see the argument.

Maybe a PC modder will add it someday. If the PC version ever comes out, that is. For now I'll just have to accept that Lucia and Jason will have whatever hair I give them, no growth required.
