gta 6 kept me going through the worst year of my life
A couple years back I hit a wall. Mental health completely collapsed, ended up in a psych ward after things got really dark. I'm not gonna dump every detail here, but I almost didn't stick around long enough to see any of this.
When the first GTA 6 trailer dropped in December 2023 I was still in that hole. But I made myself a promise that night. I told myself I'd hold on long enough to play this game. It sounds dumb saying it out loud, but that was the only thing I had to look forward to.
Fast forward to now and I'm about to graduate college. I've got actual friends again. My head is in a way better place than it was. I'm not saying GTA 6 fixed me, that's not how it works. But having that one thing on the horizon gave me a reason to keep moving when everything else felt pointless.
So yeah, GTA 6 means something way bigger to me now. It's a marker for how far I've come. People can give me crap for preordering all they want. I don't care. I'm just happy I'm still here to complain about the 30fps discourse like everyone else.
I know it sounds cliche but it does get better. You have to put in the work though. Getting better doesn't mean you wake up one day fixed. You learn how to cope without destroying yourself, you learn to actually like who you are, and you start appreciating the little stuff. For me that little stuff was a trailer for a video game. Seems ridiculous but it worked.
I'm not gonna pretend I'm some success story either. Some days still suck. But I've got November 19 circled on the calendar and for the first time in a long time I actually believe I'll be around to see it.
