GTA VI will be a time capsule for the 2020s, same way IV was for the 2000s

Been replaying GTA IV lately and it hits different every time. Not just the story or the driving, but the whole vibe of the city. It's like stepping into a very specific window of time. The phones were basic, the internet cafes were still a thing, and social media wasn't this all-consuming monster yet. Everything felt a little more analogue, a little more grounded. Even the ads and the radio stations scream late 2000s.

I've never been to New York, but Liberty City in IV makes me feel like I have. It's not just the landmarks, it's the atmosphere. The way people interact, the grime, the sense that the world is still figuring out what it's becoming. That's what makes it such a perfect time capsule.

Now with VI, Rockstar seems to be leaning back into that more serious, detailed world-building. The trailers show a Leonida that's vibrant and chaotic, sure, but there's a weight to it. The lighting, the density, the little slice-of-life moments. It doesn't feel as cartoonish as V sometimes did. If they nail that atmosphere, we're going to be looking back at this game in 2036 or 2040 and it'll feel like a snapshot of the 2020s. The fashion, the cars, the way people use their phones, the political chaos in the background. It'll all be frozen in time.

Kind of wild to think about what the world will even look like then. The 2030s might make the 2020s seem quaint. Or maybe it'll be a total mess. Either way, VI will be the artifact we point to and say "that's what it felt like."
